Nothing About Us, Without Us
Alyssum doesn’t accept clinical referrals or patient records as a means of referral. Instead, we speak first with the person seeking support. If our program is a good fit, we will ask them to choose a licensed professional who knows them well to call us and answer a brief safety questionnaire.
We call this the “screening.” The screening includes the following questions:

- Is the person currently at risk of acting on suicidal thoughts?
- Is the person currently at risk of needing medical attention for self harm?
- Has the person experienced any recent episodes of uncontrolled destructive behavior or violence?
- Is the person stable on their current medications?
- Is the person able to manage their medications as prescribed independently?

Alyssum was/is unlike any institution I’ve ever been in a good way. I enjoyed the setting, personal freedom, helpful, real “hosts”.
